Peak Oil getting some love

If you are like me, you might have been a believer in Peak Oil but it was just an abstract idea. Now, it is finally becoming more and more of a reality.

I was watching Squawk Box today and I saw this interview.

Peak Oil is finally getting some attention. After I watched this interview, I called my good friend Marc Porlier (who is a fellow writer on this site) expressing my concern about oil prices. To give you a little bit of history, Marc used to work on Wall Street as analyst with J.P. Morgan and consulted with hedge funds in the financial capital of the world. In other words, Marc ain't a kook. He is a "call it like I see it, take no prisoners kind of a guy". In other words, he is loved by a few, but respected by everyone. The kind of guy you want next to you in a fox hole; my kind of a guy. Our conversation goes something like this:

Andy: Hey brother, what is going on. You watching oil?

Marc Yeah man, this is nuts. I think this is it man. I am actually starting to get my affairs in order. Not only are high prices here to stay, but we could see a death run up to two hundred bones by the end of the summer. There simply is no capacity. And we are going into hurricane season. Imagine if we get a warning, not to mention another Katrina. It will be lights out.

Andy: I read you. For all of the lip service and adjustments we have done, I still feel unprepared. In fact, I am almost grieving.

Marc:The irony is that this could have been avoided if there had actually been a free market in oil. If oil was in a free market, we wouldn't be in this mess to begin with.

Our conversation goes on about how we are preparing our finances and our lifestyles. But the point is, what is going to happen to the average Joe when he can't afford to fill up the tank to get to work? My friends, it is time to get your house in order.
